Ferret Classifications
Championship Classes
- Kits: A ferret that has been spayed/neutered before 12 weeks old and is 16 weeks old to 1 year old at the time of the show. These are usually pet store ferrets. (Marshall Farms, Path Valley Farms, etc.)
- Early Alter (Companion): A ferret that has been spayed/neutered before 12 weeks old and is 1 year old to 7 years old at the time of the show. These are usually pet store ferrets. (Marshall Farms, Path Valley Farms, etc.)
- Late Alter: A ferret that has been spayed/neutered after 12 weeks old and is 1 year old to 7 years old at the time of the show. These are usually ferrets that have been purchased directly from a breeder.
- Chemically Alter: A ferret that has been given a deslorelin implant instead of surgical spaying or neutering. Veterinary proof of implant is required. A chemically altered ferret that shows signs of being in season will be disqualified.
Color Specialty Classes
- Albino: A ferret with a completely white body and red eyes.
- Blaze/Panda/Shetland:
- Blaze: A Ferret with a wide white stripe running over the top of the head, a bib, knee patches, and white mitts/toes.
- Shetland: A ferret with a thin white stripe running over the top of the head.
- Panda: A ferret with an all-white head and neck, a bib, and mitts/stockings.
- Champagne/Cinnamon:
- Cinnamon: A ferret with a rust to reddish brown coat and a white or white with golden hue undercoat. The legs and tail are darker than the body. Eyes are dark to light burgundy and noses vary from pink to brick.
- Champagne: A ferret with a tan, light golden brown/beige coat, brown or burgundy eyes, and a pink nose. A banded mask or no mask is acceptable.
- Chocolate: A ferret with a chocolate brown coat and a standard mask, legs and tail darker than the body.
- Mitt: A ferret with four white feet starting at the tip of the toe and extending not more than 1/3 of the leg. The white must be clearly defined from the leg color. The coat may be any color other than white, the eyes and nose may be any color.
- Point: A ferret with a distinct difference between body color and the legs and tail (the points) like a Siamese cat. The mask can be a “V” mask, a goggle mask, or no mask at all. The nose will be pink, dusky pink, or beige.
- Roan: A ferret with guard hairs that are black, sable, chocolate, champagne, or cinnamon and has white hairs (roaning) scattered throughout. This class DOES NOT include Silvers.
- Sable (includes Dark Sable and Black Sable): A ferret with a rich dark brown or black coat, a cream, white, gray, or black undercoat, a well-defined mask or hooded mask, and a solid, mottled, speckled, or outlined nose.
- Silver: A ferret that has any shade of gray, but not black, coat. Eyes are usually black and the nose is pink, mottled, or black. The mask is a small blotch under each eye.
Extraordinary Classes
- Angora: A ferret with angora bloodlines. Full, Half, or Semi Angoras only in this class. No pet store ferrets. (Marshall Farms, Path Valley Farms, etc.)
- Bibbed: A ferret of any color that has a distinctive bib.
- Dark Eyed White (DEW) and Marked White (Dark-Eyed, Patterned, Marked): A ferret with an all-white coat or white with dark markings or patterns on the body. Eyes are black or dark burgundy. The nose should be pink, however dark noses are acceptable.
- GCFA Graduates: A ferret that has been adopted from the GCFA. Ferrets in this class must be spayed or neutered, NO chemically altered ferrets.
- Mutt: A ferret that does not meet standard color or pattern requirements. The coat may be any color in combination with as many non-standard markings or patterns. The more blotches and splotches the better!
- Physically Challenged: A ferret with a visible physical disability such as, but not limited to missing limbs or toes, short or no tail, misaligned jaws, missing ears or eyes, cataracts, blindness. Deafness does not qualify. Ferrets in this class are NOT ELIGIBLE for Championship Classes.
- Senior: A ferret 5 years to 7 years young. There are no color or pattern requirements. NO chemically altered ferrets. NOTE: show day is tiring even for a young ferret. Please enter only seniors who are in the best of health.
- Shelter: A ferret that has been adopted from a recognized ferret shelter. Ferrets in this class must be spayed or neutered, NO chemically altered ferrets.
- Square Peg: A ferret that doesn't fit into any color category. For example, a sable ferret with some white fur on its neck or a chocolate ferret with white toes.
- Stockings: A ferret with two or all four white legs starting at the tip of the toe and extending towards the elbow. The white must be clearly defined from the leg color. The coat may be any color other than white, the eyes and nose may be any color.
- Sunshine: A normally white ferret whose coat has a yellow tinge or has a faint to pronounced yellow stripe running along the back of the body. The coat is not oily and the color is not peach or orange. The eyes may be any color.
